The cornerstone of Merida’s innovation is its engineered Fc therapeutics, protein-based molecules that mimic antibodies but are designed to precisely bind and eliminate the disease-causing antibodies themselves. Unlike conventional treatments that broadly suppress the immune system—often leading to serious side effects—Merida’s approach is selective and durable, leaving the rest of the immune system untouched.

Lead Candidate Targets Graves’ Disease
Merida’s lead program targets Graves’ disease, a condition caused by autoantibodies that overstimulate the thyroid gland, leading to excessive hormone production and metabolic imbalance. By directly targeting the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) antibodies, the therapy aims to restore normal thyroid function without resorting to immune suppression or surgery.

Founded in 2022 by Third Rock Ventures, Merida was built around discoveries by co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Dario Gutierrez, formerly Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Third Rock.
